Payday loans public hearing set

OGDEN -- The city council during a Tuesday night work session made some minor language changes to a proposed ordinance to limit the number of payday lenders that can operate in Ogden.

(Courtesy photo) William M. Johnson (seen in above photo) painted murals in Lehi and was a newspaper artist in Salt Lake City and, later, in California. While serving in the Army during World War II, he used postcards to sketch scenes from his experiences. He mailed them to his father, William Wallace Johnson, who hung them in his Union Station barbershop. The postcards seen here, as well as others, may be coming back to Ogden.

OGDEN -- World War II scenes an Ogden soldier drew on postcards and mailed to his dad, who was a barber at Ogden's Union Station, have turned up in Sacramento and may be coming back to town.

(MATTHEW HATFIELD/Standard-Examiner) Going Second plays at Mound Fort Junior High School in Ogden on Tuesday. The concert is produced by Music Makes Music, an organization that works to increase exposure to music and the arts in public schools.

OGDEN -- Students at Mound Fort Middle School kicked off their trimester Tuesday with beating drums, screeching guitars and a smoke machine. They celebrated being in school with a genuine rock concert.

They were honored at a brunch hosted by Ron and Ruth Ann Yahns. Friends also surprised the couple for lunch at Mimi's Cafe in Layton. They were married Feb. 13, 1960, in the Park Avenue Evangelical United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, Pa.

OGDEN —The Grizzlies bent, but ultimately didn’t break.

Freshman guard Will Cherry drained a clutch free-throw line jumper with 24 seconds left and the University of Montana basketball team hung on to knock off Northern Colorado 68-63 in the first semifinal of the America First Credit Union Big Sky Conference mens basketball tournament at the Dee Events Center on Tuesday evening.
